Missions Weekend

We had a most powerful sermon from Rev. Dr. Wang this evening. He expounded the need to fulfill the Great Commission in line with the spirit of Missions Weekend.

He was full of jokes and gave one sermon that you would just not nod off. His jokes were great fun. He talks about the 'all stars' hotels in China that he had to stay and his ministering journeys along with Uncle Liang. Uncle Liang is his model for the Apostle Paul.

We all know how Saul before he became Paul was anti-Christians and that he assisted in the stoning and death of Stephens. As the story goes, he was struck blind by God on the way to Damascus and became a Christian thence. Uncle Liang's fervour for evangelism was very much akin to Paul and today he is in jail for 10 years. Uncle Liang, an ex- Red Guard militant persecuted Christians in China before he was converted. Currently in prison for Christian evangelism, he views his incarceration more of joy than endurance. When he was asked whether he was beaten and badly treated in prison, his answer was always 'Halleluyah!'. He had spent time in prison evangelising to fellow in-mates and today has been successful in many salvation for the Lord.

Like the widow who lost and found her mite; the shepherd who lost his sheep and then recovered it and the return of the prodigal son, we are committed to the Great Commission as Christians. You do not have to go on missions physically, You can give in cash as well as pray so that lost souls will be saved.

So, let us all be like the father of the prodigal son who was overjoyed to have his son back in his fold. Lost souls must be saved for the Lord. Let us serve the Lord. Let us make this divine mission our own this day!
