Jinggo and His Chalk

In days gone by, before the advent of computers, ever wondered how stockbrokers conduct their trading?

Let me tell you.

We have a few large wide boards on all sides of the trading room. The brokers and remisiers faced these walls and will call out to a boy who will be walking about theses boards writing buyer and seller quotes. So, if you need to know a stock quote, your remisier will shout out to him, almost like in a wet market, to get you the quotes. When I was trading at the old OSK beside Bangkok Bank, you can see the Malay boy, Jinggo with a chalk, writing feverishly on the boards.

Things have changed now. You do not need to go to a trading room any more. You can trade off your own computer in the comforts of your home.

The name of the game is the same. It is more efficient these days and you pay minimum brokerage if you go on-line trading.

Quote of the Day:
