The Paying Piper
The fraternity has been getting together quite often. We meet up for dinner perhaps three times or more a year. There need not be a special reason for us to meet but as far as I remembered, since I organized all of them, we had good reasons to meet. Often it was to celebrate someone’s promotion or someone who has been given a datukship. At other times, it is to meet up with our friends who had migrated to
On all these occasions except for one, this particular friend has been paying the bills. He insisted on it. Sure, he could afford it; but then there are many millionaires among us who could do the honour. I believe there were attempts on an occasion or two when our banker friend tried but failed as he was convinced quite easily to handle the bill “the next-time-lah.” Funny thing, the others felt no compunction to ante up their wallets or credit cards. There were cases of others who wanted to pay their share of the bill. A good soul did bring some liquor to add cheer to the occasion.
As they say, the piper who plays, calls the tune. So our financing piper decided on the restaurant while the menu has on most occasions, been decided by a lady.
We will be meeting again to celebrate post Chinese New Year (CNY) since we did not want to compete in booking restaurant rooms during those heady 15 days. It is also opportune as a friend has just come back for a holiday to celebrate her mother’s grand birthday bash.
The response so far has been good. Let us see how the occasion will turn out.
